Reconfirming our commitment to always champion inclusivity, stand against injustice, and support our LGBTQ+ students wholeheartedly.
Highlands and Islands Student Association Statement - LGBTQ+ History Month.
The Highlands and Islands Students’ Association is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students at UHI. We believe that everyone deserves the freedom to express themselves openly, without fear of discrimination or prejudice. Our student community is built on respect, diversity, and the celebration of all identities—ensuring that every individual feels valued, heard, and supported.
This February, we proudly recognise LGBTQ+ History Month—a time to honour the resilience of those who fought for LGBTQ+ rights, reflect on the progress made, and celebrate the rich history and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals in society. But we also acknowledge the challenges that remain. In a world where hard-won rights can feel fragile and progress is not always linear, it is more important than ever to stand firm in our commitment to equality.
At HISA, we will always champion inclusivity, stand against injustice, and support our LGBTQ+ students wholeheartedly. LGBTQ+ History Month is not just about looking back—it is about reaffirming our dedication to building a future where everyone can thrive as their authentic selves. No matter what happens beyond our community, within HISA, you will always have a place where you are seen, respected, and celebrated.
