Scottish Association for Marine Science

If you're studying at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, then find out more about your Students' Association at your local campus and learning centres.

The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) is an academic partner of UHI which has around 150 Students studying at the campus in Dunbeg near Oban. It was founded in 1884 by Sir John Murray and now researches how our marine environment works, how and why it's changing and how we can use that environment sustainably.

Our students at SAMS are represented by a local officer and your cross campus officer team. You can find out more about their work down below.

No link between salmon farming and harmful algae blooms

Marine scientists, from SAMS, investigating the formation of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Scottish waters have found no link between salmon farming and the likelihood of a bloom forming.
