Hello! My name is Holly Pearce, and I'm excited to stand as a candidate for Vice President of Education in the upcoming student elections. I’m running for this role because I strongly believe in the need for stability, particularly in something as vital as education. Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a local officer at UHI Inverness, gaining invaluable experiences that has prepared me for this role. From sitting on key committees like Learning, Teaching and Research Committee to contributing to the Board of Management at UHI Inverness, I have been actively involved in shaping the student experience - and I'm eager to do even more.
If elected, I will campaign on the following things:
Champion Accessible and Inclusive Learning
I will be a dedicated advocate for all UHI students, ensuring that learning opportunities are accessible, inclusive, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of every individual. I’ll work to eliminate barriers, so all students can engage, participate, and succeed.
Demand Transparent and Inclusive Communication
I will hold UHI accountable for clear, transparent, and inclusive communication on all key decisions and policies, making sure students are not only informed but also actively involved in shaping the future of their education.
Expand Mental Health Support and Resources
I will push for increased access to mental health services, ensuring that every student has the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally. This includes advocating for more on-campus resources and streamlined access to professional help.
Strengthen Cross-Subject Collaboration
I will improve the student experience by creating strong lines of communication between different subject areas, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, and ensuring that all students benefit from a more interconnected academic community.
Ensure Equal Opportunities for All Students
I will fight to ensure that every student, regardless of background, disability, or learning difficulty, has equal access to opportunities and resources, empowering everyone to achieve their academic and personal goals without discrimination.
Secure more Accessible and Functional Study Spaces
I will advocate for the creation and improvement of study spaces that are functional, accessible, and conductive to learning, ensuring all students have the environment they need to succeed. This will include better facilities and flexible study areas for different needs and preferences.
