Hi Folks,
My name is Susan Loughlin. I’m a second year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student and I’m running for the role of Designate Depute President for HTC.
A quick intro to me:
I volunteer with 3 organisations, I’m studying full time and working part time at the moment but first and foremost I’m a mother. I understand that studying while balancing other commitments can be challenging and I have a drive to get the most help and support out of HISA and UHI that we can, to support all HTC students.
I’ve been working in student advocacy through volunteering since 2022, always standing for the smallest voice in the room, from apprentices to care experienced students. I’ve got experience in shaping policy to make sure that the voices of those I represent are heard and can influence the decisions that affect them most. I take the smallest voice and make sure it is loud enough for everyone to hear.
Many see a student union as just a social space, but it can be a powerful tool to shape our education and offer support when things are at their most challenging. We deserve to have every tool available to succeed but it needs to be tailored to our college’s specific needs.
If elected I will aim to:
- Improve the student spaces we have
- Support students to attend the events that matter to them
- Support study events & student led events
- Work on creating an easy access guide for students that details what benefits we can access across UHI campuses, other education institutions and other benefits that we gain in our local community.
There is a lot of advantages that are being missed due to location and lack of communication. I want to play a part in helping to fix that and I hope that you will allow me the opportunity to do so by voting for me on Monday 10 March 2025.
