What is a positional policy motion?

If a UHI student wants to influence what the HISA campaigns on or ask its Student Officers to take action on an issue, they can submit a positional policy motion to an All Student Meeting.

The motion will be discussed at the meeting and, if passed, will become the Students’ Association’s official policy on that issue for two years.

Who can submit a positional policy motion?

Any UHI student who has not opted out of HISA membership can submit a positional policy motion.

How can I submit a positional policy motion?

You can submit a motion by completing the below submission form.

To complete the submission form you will need to complete five different sections.

In the Motion Title section, you will need to provide a title for your motion that clearly communicates what your proposed positional policy is about.

In the Situation section, you will need to provide a short explanation of what is currently available or happening and why you think this is a problem and/ or situation that needs to change.

In the Solution section, you will need to outline the change(s) that you want to see implemented to address the problem and/ or situation. You can include up to three changes per motion.

In the Importance section, you will need to provide a short explanation of the positive difference your proposed change(s) would make for UHI students.

In the Action section, you will need to outline the actions you want the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association to undertake to achieve the change(s) you want. You can include up to three actions per motion.
