The HISA Moray team are thrilled to announce the winners of the AyePod Art Competition! We had 24 final submissions with only a handful of spaces on the AyePod wall, so the competition was fierce and the judges had a hard time choosing their final selection. They ended up choosing five winners, each of whom will receive a £40 prize voucher to Moray Office Supplies!

The winning pieces are:

  • ‘A VW Tiguan needs to be moved immediately’ - by Chase Nelson

  • Untitled – by Rona MacGillivray

  • ‘Campus Life’ - by Lynne Russell

  • Untitled – by Rona MacGillivray

  • ‘Reject AI’ - by Chase Nelson

The judges would also like to award an honourable mention (and a box of Celebrations!) to Untitled by Jaiden Blackwell for a fantastic depiction of the Victoria School of Art building, complete with the creature in the roof!

  • 'Untitled' - by Jaiden Blackwell

Those who have won a prize have been emailed. If you didn’t win this time, don’t be disheartened! We are incredibly grateful to, and proud of, every single person who took the time to throw their hat in the ring. The judges really were so impressed by the talent showcased in this competition, and we’ve already chatted with UHI Moray about holding this competition again next year... So watch this space if you’re staying on with us!

We hope that taking part in this competition has encouraged you all to be brave, creative, and challenged to think about what Campus Life means to you. Did you know that creative thinking and activity is linked to better well-being, through building a sense of purpose, confidence, and personal growth (Acar et al., 2021)? We definitely got a boost from the Paint ‘n’ Sip sessions we held in the AyePod while submissions were open, and were glad to see that lots of you submitted the work you created during those sessions.

What happens next? Well, for now we’re still waiting for UHI Moray to install the new picture frames and comfy furniture in the AyePod, and clear out those old squeaky chairs. The UHI Moray Estates team and School of Art have kindly offered to help us put the art up on the walls once those frames arrive; they’ll go right underneath the spotlights which have been purpose-installed for student art.

I hope that you’ll join us in celebrating everyone who has taken part in this competition. Thank you all for getting involved, and keep an eye out for further developments in the AyePod!
