Ethelbert Chisom Amasiaku

Student Trustee

What attracted you to become a Student Trustee?

I was attracted to become a Student Trustee because it gives me the chance to represent students and make sure their voices are heard. I enjoy helping others and want to be involved in decisions that can improve student experiences. This role will also help me learn new skills, gain leadership experience, and understand how the organization works. As a Student Voice Representative, I have seen the importance of listening to students, and becoming a Student Trustee is a great opportunity to make more positive impact.

Briefly tell us about your course

I am studying SVQ 3 Social Services and Healthcare. This is a work-based course that helps me learn the skills and knowledge needed to support and care for people in a safe and respectful way. The course covers communication, health and safety, safeguarding, promoting independence, and providing person-centred care. It helps me improve my skills and become more confident in my role.

What is your fondest memory of being a student?

My fondest memory of being a student is completing my qualification and seeing how much I have grown in confidence and skills. I am proud of what I have achieved and of being able to use what I have learned to make a positive difference in the lives of the people I support. Receiving an Exceptional Recognition Award for my hard work has also been a very special and fond moment for me.

What inspires and/or motivates you?

What inspires and motivates me is being able to help others and make a positive difference in their lives. Seeing the people I support happy, confident, and achieving their goals makes me feel proud of the work I do.

I am also motivated by learning new things, improving my skills, and growing in my career. The support and encouragement I receive from my manager, assessor, and colleagues help me stay focused and keep doing my best every day.

What do you hope to bring to the Trustee Board?

I hope to represent students by sharing their views and experiences with the Trustee Board. I want to help make sure students are listened to when decisions are made. I also hope to use my experience in social services and healthcare, along with my role as a student representative, to support positive changes and help the university improve for everyone.
