Colin Munro (he/him)

Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Colin has overall leadership responsibility for the Highlands & Islands Students’ Association, working closely with elected student representatives, Association employees, the Association’s Trustee Board and colleagues in UHI, converting policy and strategy into action as well as building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders within the Partnership and beyond.

Colin joined the Students' Association in March 2026. Prior to this he was Chief Operating Officer for Transparency International UK. His career has focused on the not-for-profit sectors training as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen and then PwC in their government and not for profit practices. In 2001 he moved to the international development sector as Finance Director of a global sexual and reproductive health charity, an organisation he subsequently returned to in Strategic Advice and Operational leadership roles. Experience in the higher education/ research sector included as Finance Director of the London Business School. He has served as a charity trustee and is experienced in governance responsibilities. 

Colin has an MA in Accountancy from the University of Aberdeen and was educated in Inverness. He is an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion and seeks to ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect at work allowing them to contribute to their fullest.
