North, West and Hebrides Depute President (Islands)

Alasdair Macleod

Hello.  I’m Alasdair, Depute President for the Islands and currently studying full time on the 2nd year BEng Mechanical Engineering.

I was an SVR during my first year and witnessed first hand how it was possible to make a difference for fellow students and so, when the opportunity arose to stand as the local HISA officer, I decided to put my name forward for election.

By profession, I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and worked in Finance for around 25 years prior to returning to study.  My last ten years were spent working in Lews Castle College, before we merged into UHI NWH, therefore I have a particular interest in the governance of the college.

I tend to be in the Stornoway campus most days so feel free to stop me in the corridor if there is anything that I can help with.  I am also normally based in the HISA office on a Thursday afternoon, should anyone want to call in.

When I’m not studying or working, my favourite place to be is on the water, either rowing or sailing.”
