Following the decision by the Board of Management of the UHI Shetland on Friday 27 February 2026 to confirm Scalloway as the chosen site for the future campus project, the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA) wishes to reassure students across Shetland that their voices continue to be represented at every stage of the process.
Student views and perspectives are formally represented at Board of Management meetings. In addition, HISA Shetland maintains regular engagement with the senior management team and the Chair of the Board to ensure that student interests remain central to ongoing discussions and planning.
To further support meaningful student input, HISA Shetland launched a survey on Monday 9th March, inviting students to share their views, questions, and concerns regarding the future campus project. We strongly encourage all UHI students in Shetland, whether registered at UHI Shetland or another Academic Partner, to participate and help shape the direction of this significant project.
The HISA Shetland office operates an open-door policy, and students are welcome to come in and speak with us directly to share their opinions or seek clarification. Students can also email hisa.shetland@uhi.ac.uk. HISA also provides an independent Advice Service, available Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, offering confidential guidance and support to students.
HISA remains committed to ensuring that the student voice is heard, respected, and actively reflected in decisions that impact the future of further and higher education in Shetland.
This is just one of many opportunities UHI Shetland students have to shape their learning, including:
So please make sure you have your say on the future of your learning experience!
