We recently ran a Student Voice Rep Impact Competition, aiming to collect and celebrate stories from SVRs who have done great things to improve the learning experience over 2024-25. This competition was made possible thanks to kind sponsorship from Enterprise car hire.

A panel of judges with personnel from HISA and UHI recently met to assess submissions, and we are delighted to announce the following awards.

  • Gold Award: Marie Kuntz, HNC Counselling, UHI Shetland.
  • Silver Awards:
    • Tilly Roberts, NC Hospitality Operations, UHI Moray.
    • Katie Lindsay, BA Applied Music, UHI, North, West and Hebrides.
  • Bronze Award: Lewis Acford, New Skills 2 access course, UHI Perth.

The judges were hugely impressed with the impacts and achievements of the award winners, who reported many different ways in which they had worked in partnership with their teaching staff and represented the diversity of the students on their course. Their case studies covered a range of areas of the student learning experience including accessibility, support, learning facilities, course residentials, and communication to students.

Marie’s Gold Award was for a study space she helped negotiate with staff at UHI Shetland, to help students on her course (and across the campus) access equipped study spaces when the library was closed. She worked closely with staff and HISA, gathered lots of student feedback, and also helped promote the designated study space both to her fellow students and the wider college population. The study space will remain in place in the coming academic year, leaving a lasting impact of Marie’s work as SVR.

Award winners will receive a certificate and prize money of £200 (Gold), £100 (Silver) and £50 (Bronze). We will be recruiting for SVRs next academic year and hope to continue to celebrate and reward the great impacts they have on the learning experience.
