Supporting Students Moving to Elgin for 2025/26
Right now, we're working closely with students who are preparing to move to Elgin for the 2025/26 academic year. We understand that finding suitable accommodation in a new area can be daunting, especially when listings are limited or unfamiliar with the area. That’s why we’re creating opportunities for students to connect with one another.
If you happen to have a spare room in your flat or house in Elgin, or if you’re on the lookout for a friendly flatmate to share with, we'd love to hear from you. The HISA Advice Service is here to help connect students and make the search a little easier and more enjoyable.
We’re building a network of students who are either offering or in need of a place to stay. By coming together, we can make the process easier and help foster a supportive student community from day one.
Private Rented Sector: What You Need to Know
If you're moving into private accommodation — whether in Elgin or elsewhere — HISA Advice can offer independent, confidential guidance on things like:
- Understanding tenancy agreements before you sign
- What to look out for in property viewings
- Your rights and responsibilities as a tenant
- What to do if things go wrong with landlords or letting agents
- Help with council tax exemption forms and utility bills
- Support if you're at risk of homelessness or eviction
We know the housing market can be tricky to navigate, especially for students. That’s why it’s worth checking in with us early, even if it’s just to double-check something or talk through your options.
No question is too small. Whether you're still looking for a room, have a room to offer, or need support with an existing tenancy, get in touch with the Advice Service. We’re here to make sure you feel confident and supported as you prepare for the year ahead.
