The author Jonathan Kemp, the Viscount Rochdale, will be in Thurso to give a book talk for his recently launched memoir, Finding Peace of Mind. This is the story of his journey battling mental health issues - bipolar disorder, depression, addiction, and dyslexia - since his childhood. He worked as a cowboy in Australia, a London bricklayer, a Metropolitan Police sergeant, and is now an entrepreneur.
In 2026 he will embark on an incredible 10-month journey across Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland to raise money for four mental health charities and to spark open conversations about mental health. Starting in the Shetland Islands on 1st January 2026, Jonathan will walk for 296-day, across 4,200km, ending in Galway in October 2026. Along the way, Jonathan is keen to give talks in workplaces, schools, universities and community groups on his own powerful story of living with bipolar disorder, depression, addiction and dyslexia. He wants to share his journey from mental illness to a life of purpose and hope, normalising conversations about mental health, reducing stigma, and inspiring others to keep going, while raising money for four charities: SAMH, Mind, Aware an Aware Northern Ireland.
