- Why did you become a Trustee at the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association?
I became a Student Trustee to actively represent the diverse voices, ensuring that every student's perspective is heard. As a Psychology student, I leverage my understanding of human behaviour to connect with and advocate for the student body, striving to create an inclusive, enjoyable, and impactful student experience in the Highlands and Islands.
- Briefly tell us about what is involved in your course and what skills you have gained from it?
In my psychology degree, I honed vital skills in research methods, statistical analysis, and ethical practices. I put these skills to work designing and analysing experiments, like my Change Detection in Human Information Processing project. The program's focus on critical thinking shines through in how I assess psychological theories for real-world situations. Plus, the push for independent study, especially during the Personality and Moral Development module, has boosted my autonomy. This course blends theory with hands-on applications, setting me up well for my future in Psychology.
- What is your fondest memory of being a student?
My favourite student memory is when I was asked to create a video for incoming 1st-year Psychology students. I highlighted the flexibility of online studying, suggesting study locations like the beach or the gym. It was a memorable way to welcome new students to the world of online learning, and it was good fun in the process!
- What inspires and/or motivates you?
I find inspiration in the chance to make a positive impact, whether it's through connecting with diverse perspectives or advocating for inclusivity. My experience as the Student Representative for my degree has shown me the value of contributing to positive change; I am excited to take it further as a Student Trustee.
- What do you hope to bring to the Trustee Board?
I hope to bring a fresh perspective, humour, and a commitment to inclusivity to the Trustee Board. As an online degree student, I aim to highlight and address the challenges of feeling disconnected, ensuring online learners are fully represented in shaping the student experience in the Highlands and Islands.
