What are the HISA Awards?

The HISA Awards celebrate outstanding UHI students and staff each year. Students nominate candidates in nine categories, with finalists judged by a panel of UHI & HISA staff and HISA officers. Winners receive a trophy and certificate, either at graduation or by mail.

This year, nominations for the HISA Awards open on the 31st of March, and close on the 28th of April. Students can make nominations across the following categories:

  • Most Inspiring Lecturer
  • Most Engaging Online Delivery
  • Best Assessment Feedback
  • Best Personal Academic or Learning Support
  • Best Research or Dissertation Supervisor
  • Best Professional Services or Support Staff
  • Most Inspiring Student - The Students' Choice
  • Best Student Club or Society
  • Above and Beyond - Staff Award

You can learn more about each category here.

Why should you nominate someone for a HISA Award?

You should nominate a fellow student, a student club, or a member of staff for a HISA Award if they have made a significant positive impact on your time at UHI. That could be an especially helpful lecturer, a course mate who went above and beyond to help you meet that crucial deadline, or the person who makes your coffee just the way you like it every morning.

Receiving a HISA Award is a big deal. Winners know that because of them, students’ lives have been improved. This encourages them to keep up the good work but also lets them know that you, the students of UHI, see and appreciate their efforts.

Who can be nominated for an award?

Any UHI student can nominate someone for an award. You can nominate anyone who fits into the relevant category: a fellow student, sports club, society, lecturer, SVR, PAT and more. HISA staff cannot be nominated for a HISA Award.

How do you nominate someone for an award?

Check your UHI student email, you will have a unique link sent to you where you can fill out your nominations form for each category. If you didn’t get an email, get in touch with us by email at hisa@uhi.ac.uk with the following details:

  • Full name
  • UHI email address
  • Student number
  • Details of the category you are trying to nominate someone for

You can make as many nominations as you like. And please try to add in detailed information about why you have nominated someone as that can help the judges make an informed decision about winners.

When will the winners be announced?

After the judging panel has picked the winners of each category, they are contacted by email to ask if they would like their award presented at graduation or sent to them in the post. Winners will be publicly announced by the end of June.
