Code of Conduct for Student Groups
All student groups must comply with all current legislation and policies from the University, relevant Academic Partner or college, and The Highlands and Islands Students' Association (HISA). We draw particular attention to the expectations in the UHI Student Code of Conduct, wherein students are expected to
Take responsibility for their own actions and conduct;
Behave in a manner that fosters respect and understanding between all members of our community;
Act within the law and not to engage in any activity or behaviour that is likely to bring UHI and partners into disrepute;
Value the good relationships UHI and partners have with local communities, businesses and other organisations;
Avoid behaving or communicating in ways that are likely to cause offence, g., using abusive or obscene language or engaging in discriminatory or anti-social behaviour;
Treat all UHI and partner property with care;
Comply with requests of members of staff;
Adhere to health and safety policies and protocols (including fire alarms) and to comply with any temporary changes during maintenance and repair
All student groups must be compliant with their own constitution.
All regional student groups must be open to all students at UHI. All local student groups must be open to all students studying at the appropriate academic partner.
Regional student groups are not required to operate in every UHI location; however, VC facilities are available for student groups which should be utilised to accommodate students at different campuses where relevant.
All HISA student groups must use the correct logo for the Students’ Association on any kit they use unless there is exceptional circumstances. They must seek approval before the production of kit.
This includes flags, banners, social media or anything else used to advertise your society.
Branding information can be provided on request.
Student groups are expected to create an inclusive environment where students can engage in the activity of the student group without discrimination. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination based upon protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.
Standing societies for underrepresented groups with protected characteristics may limit participation and membership with approval of the CEO.
Membership may be denied to an individual or revoked through due process in cases of disruption or violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
Student groups will take a zero-tolerance approach to incidents of bullying, harassment, and victimisation.
Student groups will never claim to speak on the behalf of or arrange expenditure in the name of HISA.
HISA holds the membership in British University and College Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport (SSS), so students who wish to compete must notify HISA.
A minimum of one weeks’ notice must be given.
No group or individual may raise invoices against HISA without prior approval.
Student groups must inform and involve HISA regarding affiliation with third parties. No legal contracts can be signed on behalf of HISA without the approval of the CEO.
